Many existing central heating systems are poorly controlled and of obsolete design which fail to meet current best practice requirements. It is better to replace both boiler and controls when upgrading a heating system.
However if your existing boiler is beyond economical repair or you just want to upgrade to a modern highly efficient boiler, it may be possible to do.
As of April 2005, the government has insisted that all new boilers must be highly efficient 'condensing boilers’, which are able to recover heat which is typically wasted by older, more inefficient boilers.
